Admission and Credits

  • Guaranteed Admission:
    Students who complete an Associate’s degree at New River CTC with a GPA of 2.0 or higher and are in good standing are guaranteed admission to WVU. However, some specific majors may have additional requirements for admission.

  • Transfer Credits:
    Credits earned through New River CTC’s Associate of Arts, Science, or Applied Science degrees will transfer to WVU, and general education requirements will be met upon degree completion. Course equivalency is reviewed annually to ensure credits are properly transferred.

  • Additional Requirements:
    Depending on the intended major, students may need to complete assessments such as the ALEKS Math Assessment. Credits from AP, CLEP, or military service may also be eligible for transfer.

Program Criteria
  • Program Pathways:
    Students must meet GPA and course prerequisites for their chosen major as outlined in the articulation pathway. The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree will be reviewed to ensure alignment with WVU’s academic criteria.

  • International Students:
    International students must meet the required English proficiency standards, including TOEFL or IELTS scores, to be eligible for admission to WVU.

  • Residency Requirement:
    Students transferring to WVU must complete at least 30 of their final 36 credit hours at WVU, ensuring that most of their degree is completed in residence.

Enrollment and Requirements
  • Dual Enrollment:
    Eligible students wishing to enroll at both New River CTC and WVU simultaneously must work with both institutions to complete a consortium agreement to ensure financial aid eligibility.

  • Reverse Transfer:
    Students transferring to WVU without an Associate’s degree may still participate in the Reverse Transfer initiative, which allows them to complete their degree at New River CTC if they meet eligibility criteria.

  • Program Termination:
    This agreement may be terminated by either institution with six months’ notice. However, students currently enrolled in a program will be allowed to finish their studies as planned.
