Students with Disabilities

Accessibility Services at New River CTC

We are here for you!

If you are a new or returning New River CTC student seeking access or accommodation support, here’s some essential information:

  • Protected Rights: The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 ensure your rights.
  • Available Services: Accommodations are offered for a variety of access needs, including but not limited to auditory and visual impairments, mental health conditions, and physical disabilities.
  • Initial Steps: Begin by discussing your needs with an Educational Counselor at the Student Success Center, who will work with the ADA Coordinator to determine appropriate accommodations.
  • Required Documentation: You must provide up-to-date, formal documentation from a healthcare professional, outlining your condition and its impact, as well as suggesting necessary accommodations.
  • Accommodation Types: We make modifications to make our programs and facilities accessible, ensuring you have equal opportunities.
  • Optimal Timing: It’s best to initiate this process several weeks before the semester starts, to set the stage for your academic success.
  • Addressing Discrimination: Should you encounter discrimination related to your access needs, please report it to the ADA Coordinator.
