Whether you’re a first-time freshman or returning to continue you education, we’re here to help you every step of the way.
First-time freshman, Readmitted, Transfer, Transient and Special students who are not pursuing a Selective Admission program will register for classes once admission is complete through the Student Success Coaches their first semester or upon returning to the college. These students will be assigned to their academic advisor after their initial advising appointment for future registration purposes.

To register online for classes:
- Review the class schedule along with the required courses for your program to identify the courses you need.
- Contact your Advisor to review your schedule.

What Type of Student Are You?
First-Time Freshman
First-Time Freshman
A student who hasn’t attended another college and has a high school diploma, GED or TASC.
Provisional Student
Provisional Student
A student who is currently in high school and would like to take a course from New River CTC through dual enrollment or early enrollment.
Readmitted Student
Readmitted Student
A student who attended New River CTC in the past but have been absent for one semester or longer and have not attempted any other college work since leaving.
Special Student
Special Student
A student who takes college courses for personal enrichment or job improvement, but is not seeking a certificate or degree.
Transfer Student
Transfer Student
A student who earned a high school diploma, GED or Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC) and has taken a college course.
Transient Student
Transient Student
A student who is currently attending another college or university but plans to take a class to transfer back to their home school.
First-Time Freshman
and Transfer Students:
To make an appointment to register for classes you must:
- Complete a current application for admission for the semester you wish to enroll.
- Complete online orientation.
- Submit placement test scores taken within 5 years from the date of application (ACT, SAT or complete New River CTC’s placement test in Student Services). A student may decline to provide test scores or to take the Accuplacer and be placed in Foundation courses.
OR
- Completed college level English and math with proof provided by your official college transcripts sent from all colleges attended or have submitted unofficial college transcripts for advising purposes only.
Readmitted Students:
When new student registration opens, you will need to make an appointment to see the Student Program Advisor in the Office of Admissions for registration.
Special Students:
To register for classes you must:
- Have met any course prerequisite requirements listed under course descriptions in the college catalog and have proof of meeting the requirements.
- Submit unofficial transcripts, ACT or SAT placement test scores within 5 years from the date of application or take New River CTC’s placement test in Student Services.
- If there are no prerequisites, you will only need to complete a registration form with us after applying for admission.
Transient Students:
To register for classes you must:
- Have requested a transient permission form in order to take classes with New River CTC from your home college or university. This form is normally obtained through your advisor and sent to us directly from the Registrar’s office if approved.
- Placement test scores must be within 5 years from current admission.
- Have completed your transient permission form and sent it to the Office of Admissions: admissions@newriver.edu or have it in-hand. The Registrar’s Signature MUST be on the form in order to register for classes.
Provisional Students:
To register for classes you must:
Have completed your provisional form sent to the Office of Admissions, admissions@newriver.edu or sent to the campus you will attend in seat or online.
