Admission and Credits

Students from New River CTC seeking transfer to UC must submit an application and official transcripts from all previously attended institutions. Admission is granted to students with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00, in good academic and conduct standing, and who meet any additional program-specific requirements.


Transfer Credit Highlights:

  • Courses with a grade of “D” or higher may transfer if equivalent to UC offerings.

  • CLEP, AP, and other prior learning credits are evaluated on a case-by-case basis when sent directly from testing agencies.

  • A “P” grade is accepted only if defined by New River CTC as “C” or better.

  • Transfer grades will not impact the UC GPA.

  • All attempted credits are counted toward financial aid eligibility.

Program Criteria

Students must fulfill all UC academic program requirements to receive a baccalaureate degree.
Degree Completion Requirements:

  • Minimum of 120 academic credits.

  • All program-specific outcomes and requirements.

  • A cumulative UC GPA of at least 2.00 (or higher if specified by the program).

  • Completion of all degree-specific graduation criteria outlined in the student’s catalog of record.

Enrollment and Requirements

New River CTC students can apply to UC as full-time or part-time students through the UC Admissions Office. Qualified applicants are considered for institutional scholarships, including the renewable UC/CTC Partnership Scholarship, based on GPA.
Additional Student Benefits:

  • Access to UC’s online resources and support for New River CTC faculty, staff, and students.

  • Military students may receive credit for training and benefit from UC’s participation in the Post-9/11 GI Bill and Yellow Ribbon Program.

  • Cooperative education and internships are evaluated individually for credit eligibility.

Pathway to a Bachelor’s Degree

New River Community and Technical College has partnered with the University of Charleston to e create a seamless pathway for students to complete a baccalaureate degree.

Through this 2+2 articulation agreement, students who earn an Associate of Arts (A.A.) or Associate of Science (A.S.) from New River CTC—or who complete specified coursework—can directly transfer to UC with minimized credit loss and expanded scholarship opportunities.
