WV Invests Grants available for programs at New River CTC

[BEAVER, W.Va.] Over 30 certificate and associate degree programs offered at New River Community and Technical College are eligible for the West Virginia Invests Grant Program.

“This is going to do wonderful things for the state,” said New River CTC President Dr. Bonny Copenhaver. “The program is going to help those who want an education to train for in-demand jobs but may have not have qualified for financial aid. In turn a well-trained workforce is going to encourage more industries to come to West Virginia which helps the state’s economy.”

West Virginia Invests was created by the legislature during the 2019 regular session to help West Virginians pay for college starting with the 2019-20 academic year. The “last-dollar-in” financial aid program covers the basic tuition and fees for certificate or associate degree programs in specific-high demand fields, as determined by the West Virginia Department of Commerce.

New River CTC certificate programs eligible for WV Invests funding include: automotive maintenance and light repair, bookkeeping, cosmetology, diesel service technology, electric distribution engineering technology, esthetics, industrial technology, IT foundations, legal office assistant, machining technology, massage therapy, medical insurance billing and coding, paramedic, paraprofessional education, practical nursing and welding technology.

Associate degree programs offered through New River CTC eligible for WV Invests funding include: automotive service technology, business (concentrations in accounting, marketing and management), business administration, business: office technology, computer science, criminal justice, diesel service technology, emergency medical services, hospitality and tourism management, industrial technology, legal assisting, medical assisting, medical laboratory technician, paraprofessional education, social services and welding technology.

To qualify for the grant program, student must: be a legal resident of West Virginia for at least 1 year immediately before applying; be a graduate of a public, private or homeschool program, or have successfully passed a high school equivalency test; have not already earned a college degree (associate level or higher); have completed the FAFSA; be willing to make a commitment to improving the state by living in West Virginia for at least two years after graduation and completing at least two hours of unpaid community service each academic term; meet the minimum admissions requirements at an eligible institution and register for at least 6 credit hours; and pay for and pass a drug screening before the start of each academic term.

Students interested in attending New River CTC and receiving funding through the WV Invests program should complete the Federal Application for Financial Aid (FAFSA) including New River CTC’s school code, 039603; New River CTC’s application; and the WV Invests application.
