“I came to New River Community and Technical College on a whim, really,” Amanda Wiles explained. “And I’m so glad that I did. Because New River CTC is a smaller school, you have a close relationship with the staff and faculty. I feel that they genuinely have my best interest in mind.”
Wiles is a working, single mother. She graduated in May 2021 from New River Community and Technical College with an associate of applied science degree in business accounting and plans to continue her education at West Virginia State University.
“My experience at New River CTC has helped to give me confidence that I didn’t have before,” Wiles said. “I’d been out of school for a while, and after coming to New River CTC, I feel that college is for everyone. New River CTC gives you everything you need to be successful. My advisors, Ann Nagye and Brian Seldomridge, have always been available to help me and answer my questions, so I felt that I was more than just a number at New River CTC. It’s been hard at times, but I’ve been able to take classes in the evening and online, so I didn’t have to take time off from work to go to school.”
New River CTC offers over 60 degree and certificate programs, including business degree programs in accounting, administration, management, marketing and office technology. The college’s business associate degree programs qualify for free tuition through the West Virginia Invests grant program.
New River CTC regularly partners with four-year colleges and universities to help students to continue their education. Through the Straight 2 STATE program, New River CTC students who earn an associate degree are guaranteed admission into WVSU and into their selected major, and all of their academic credits will transfer and be credited toward their degree.
New River CTC is now registering students for the fall 2021, spring 2022 and summer 2022 semesters. For more information, visit www.newriver.edu, email admissions@newriver.edu or call 1-866-349-3739.
