New River CTC Offering Whimsical Writer Workshop with Belinda Anderson

If you’re human, you’ve got a funny bone. New River Community and Technical College invites you to unleash your inner humorist by attending “The Whimsical Writer,” a three-week audio class beginning May 2nd led by author Belinda Anderson.

The class is designed to offer tips and ideas for practicing writers and to uncover the humorous vein in those who’d like to try creative writing. Examples and exercises will demonstrate how a touch of whimsy can underscore your message and leave readers with a smile.

Humor is a hallmark in Anderson’s own writing. “Noted for her wit, Anderson writes humorously as well as compassionately,” said reviewer Phyllis Wilson Moore. West Virginia’s Poet Laureate Marc Harshman described one of her books as “full of humor, under-stated romance, and unexpected suspense … what mostly remains after reading is a warmth of spirit.”

“The Whimsical Writer” meets at 10 a.m. on Thursdays for three weeks through an audio-only conference call. The class can be accessed either through an internet conference call connection or by landline telephone – high-speed internet is not required. The hour-long classes will include lecture, with time for questions and participant sharing, and group e-mail follow-up.

Tuition for the class is $95. The registration deadline is April 22nd. Participants will be emailed the conference call number and access codes after registering for the class.
