New River CTC Medical Assisting Students Work Toward Achieving their Goals in Skills Checkoff

     [ BEAVER, WV] New River Community and Technical College’s Medical Assisting students on conducted blood pressure checks on New River CTC faculty and staff volunteers at the Raleigh County Campus as to further improve their skills. These students are pursuing an associate degree in medical assisting through New River CTC and are preparing to enter a job market where their skills and knowledge are in high demand.

           Vanessa Bailey, Instructor at New River CTC says, “We’re thrilled to see the overwhelming demand for our Medical Assisting program graduates. Employers are eager to bring our students on board, with many offering positions before they even complete the program.            New River CTC’s Medical Assisting program prepares students to work in a variety of healthcare settings. Incorporating a mix of hands on clinical and administrative responsibilities, students throughout the program gain experience in direct patient care, assisting with invasive and non-invasive procedure, and administration of medication as directed by a physician. Administrative duties include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing and coding information for insurance purposes, and precertification’s for procedures and testing.

           Students will complete an extensive externship during the program, and upon graduation are qualified to accept positions in medical offices, insurance companies, hospitals, and more. This program is offered at New River CTC’s Greenbrier Valley Campus, Mercer County Campus, Nicholas County Campus, and the Raleigh County Campus.
