New River CTC Hosts “Welding as An Art” Metal Arts Class

[GHENT, WV] – New River Community and Technical College is excited to announce the return of its popular “Welding as An Art” class, scheduled to take place in June 2024. This engaging course invites participants to explore the artistic side of welding.

The “Welding as An Art” class is designed for anyone interested in learning the basics of welding and creating metal artwork. Under the guidance of Instructional Specialist Dave Holland, participants will explore two forms of welding: stick and MIG welding. They’ll also learn how to bend and grind metal to achieve specific contours and use an acetylene torch or plasma cutter to cut the material. During the course, students will discuss their artistic vision and develop a plan or blueprint for their art project.

“Nothing puts a smile on my face more than taking a piece of junk and turning it into something new,” said Mr. Holland.

This class is open to everyone, including students, employees, and the general public. Participants are required to provide their own personal protective equipment (PPE), including a hood, welding jacket or denim jacket, safety glasses, boots, and welding gloves.
