New River CTC and GEAR UP SWV Host Successful Adventure Camp for Students

New River Community and Technical College and GEAR UP SWV proudly announce the success of their recent Adventure Camp. Twenty-five enthusiastic students from Mercer, Raleigh, and Summers counties participated in a week-long immersive camp that combined academic exploration, career development, and exciting outdoor activities.

Throughout the camp, students participated in interactive sessions that introduced them to a wide range of college courses and career opportunities. Experts from various fields provided valuable insights and mentorship, helping students to better understand the skills and knowledge required for success in different industries.

Summit Bechtel Reserve, ACE Adventure Resort, and Arrowhead Bike Farms provided engaging activities that not only showcased the possibilities within the adventure tourism industry but also highlighted the importance of teamwork and leadership.

One of the standout features of the camp was the focus on hospitality and tourism, a sector that offers diverse career paths and significant economic potential. Through hands-on activities and real-world examples, students learned about the many facets of this industry.

Tammy Mills, GEAR UP SWV Coordinator for New River CTC, expressed her enthusiasm for the camp’s impact, stating, “We are incredibly proud of the experiences and opportunities we were able to provide for these students. This camp is more than just a fun summer activity; it’s a chance for young people to see themselves in new careers and to begin planning for their future.”
