Mushroom growing class scheduled for Ghent

[GHENT, W.Va.] New River Community and Technical College is offering a gourmet mushroom growing class on Tuesday, November 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Advanced Technology Center, Ghent.

Restaurants are in need of local suppliers of “hard-to-get” mushrooms, some may be priced as high as $200 per pound when dried. Students will be prepared to help meet the need of supplying mushrooms. Participants will learn about mushroom growing, identifying mushrooms and how to build a hoop house or shade house.

Pre-registration for the course is required by November 10.  The cost is $30. 

New River CTC’s Workforce Education Division provides community education classes and employable educational opportunities including noncredit courses, workforce development programs and customized training.
