Mercer County 8th Graders Explore Career Opportunities at New River CTC’s Spooktacular Career Expo

More than 500 eighth-grade students from Mercer County visited the New River Community and Technical College Advanced Technology Center (ATC) in Ghent for a spooktacular hands-on career fair and expo.

The event gave students the chance to explore various career pathways through interactive activities and demonstrations all while getting into the spooky spirit! They observed demonstrations from several New River CTC technical programs, including Welding, Lineman, HVAC, Automotive, Diesel, CDL, Massage Therapy, Barbering, Culinary Arts, and more.

The career fair aimed to introduce students to diverse job opportunities and encourage them to start thinking about their future education and career paths.

“We are thrilled to provide this interactive experience to help students understand the variety of career options available to them when they choose New River CTC,” said Tammy Mills, GEAR UP SWV Coordinator and Community Outreach at New River CTC. “By engaging in these hands-on activities, we hope to inspire them to pursue fields they may not have previously considered.”

New River CTC is thrilled to partner with GEARUP SWV to offer engaging opportunities for students to explore various career paths and gain the confidence they need to succeed in their futures.
