Learn to write your life story with author Belinda Anderson

[LEWISBURG, W.Va.] Award-winning author Belinda Anderson will lead a Life Stories class Tuesday, October 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the New River Community and Technical College campus in Lewisburg.

“`Everyone is original, talented and has something to say.’ Brenda Ueland wrote that in 1938, and that’s the message I bring to adult writing workshops,” Anderson explains. “I love to

see the creative blossoming that results when people are encouraged to write that poem, short story or family memory that’s been locked inside them like a bit of buried treasure.”

Participants will learn how to translate theirmemories into written form using tools of the reporter’s trade and the narrative elements of fiction. Lecture will be supplemented with in-class exercises to jump start the creative process.

The West Virginia Division of Culture and History named Anderson a Master Artist to work as a mentor with emerging writers. Her collections of award-winning short stories, “The Well Ain’t Dry Yet,” “The Bingo Cheaters” and “Buckle Up, Buttercup,” have been published by Mountain State Press. Her most recent book, “Jackson vs. Witchy Wanda: Making Kid Soup,” was published in May 2013.

The cost for the class is $75, and pre-registration is required by October 6.
