[SUMMERSVILLE, W.Va.] “Going back to school is the best choice I’ve ever made,” said Webster Springs resident Rebecca Jett.
At 58, she isn’t a typical college student, but she brings a wealth of life experience to the classroom. Jett had worked in healthcare and as a daycare provider. She cared for her father and husband and now is helping to raiser her grandchildren.

Her youngest daughter and grandchildren range in age from 9 to 17, and they understand that she needs time to study and do class work. Her youngest daughter will graduate from high school next spring, around the same time that Jett will earn her Associate of Applied Science in Social Services from New River Community and Technical College.
“I almost gave up on the idea after I turned 40. I was afraid to register for classes, and then amazed at how easily things came back to me. It feels wonderful to learn new things,” Jett explained. “For anyone thinking about going back to school, take the chance.”
Jett chose New River CTC for the location, as the Nicholas County Campus is close to her home. She plans to continue her education in social work with the goal of obtaining a social work position with Hospice.
