The Certificate of Applied Science in Health Professions Pathways: Health Information Technology is designed to provide students with the opportunity to develop technical skills for entry-level positions in health care. The program provides the basic courses necessary to pursue further study or seek admission to selective enrollment programs in specialty areas.

Program Learning Outcomes
- Provide educational skills designed to give students the opportunity to develop technical skills for entry-level positions in health care, along with basic courses necessary to pursue further study or admission to selective enrollment programs in specialty areas.
- Equip students with the fundamental knowledge of health information technology, including medical billing and coding, and healthcare regulations, to support further academic and career success.
- 80% of students will find employment in a healthcare-related field or pursue their AAS in Health Information Management.
To be eligible for admission into this program, students must meet the general requirements for admission to New River Community and Technical College.
