Health Information Management AAS
The program prepares students for careers in health information management. After completing the program, students will be qualified for positions with responsibilities including: maintaining, compiling, analyzing and evaluating health data, controlling the use and release of health information, and supervising staff. The curriculum combines didactic courses on campus with clinical experience in selected health care facilities.

Program Learning Outcomes
- The mission of the Health Information Management, AAS program is to provide an educational background that enables graduates to pursue a bachelor’s degree related to Health Information Management at a four-year college, and/or obtain employment in a variety of healthcare settings in entry-level careers in health information management.
- Equip students with the fundamental knowledge of health information management (HIM), including medical coding, data management, and healthcare regulations, to support further academic and career success.
- Students will complete their externship course with a grade of “C” or higher in the final semester of their program.
To be eligible for admission into this program, students must meet the general requirements for admission to New River Community and Technical College.
