The Associate of Science Degree (AS) in General Studies is offered as a two-year degree program designed to meet the needs of a variety of students, including those who enter New River Community and Technical College without a specific major in mind, those who wish to take the courses necessary to transfer with junior status, or those who plan to attend college for only two years at the present but intend to pursue a four-year degree at a later date.
Graduates from New River typically obtain employment or continue to a four-year school. We have articulation agreements with most of the area’s four-year colleges and universities, which means that students may obtain their first two years of a four-year degree at New River CTC, and then continue on (transfer) to the four-year school for the final two years. This 2+2 approach to obtaining a 4-year degree is typically more cost effective for students.
New River CTC has articulation agreements in place with the following institutions to make the transfer process easier: Bluefield State College, BridgeValley Community & Technical College, Concord University, Glenville State University, Kaplan University, Marshall University, University of Charleston, Western Governors University, West Virginia State University, and West Virginia University.
