Electrical Distribution Engineering Technology ASSC

This 18-credit-hour Advanced Skill Set Certificate in Electrical Distribution Engineering Technology (EDET) program prepares students for careers in electrical power distribution, equipping them with the technical knowledge, practical skills, and safety expertise necessary to excel as entry-level line workers. Through a combination of classroom instruction, hands-on training, and industry-aligned certifications, students develop the competencies required to install, maintain, and repair electrical distribution systems. The program emphasizes safety, critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication to ensure graduates meet the workforce demands of the power industry while upholding the highest standards of professionalism and safety.

Program Learning Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of electrical power systems, including their operation, components, and safety protocols.
  2. Perform pole climbing, equipment handling, and other physical tasks required for lineman work with proficiency and adherence to safety standards.
  3. Troubleshoot and maintain both overhead and underground electrical systems, applying theoretical knowledge to practical situations.
  4. Identify and mitigate hazards associated with electrical line work, ensuring personal and public safety during operations.
  5. Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other stakeholders, utilizing industry-specific terminology and practices.

After completion of the program, students are qualified for positions such as linemen, specializing in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical power systems.
