Cyber Security AAS

The associate of applied science program in cyber security prepares students to work in entry-level cyber security jobs. The program can be completed online. Students will learn about networking, security, cyber operations and ethical hacking.

Program Learning Outcomes

  1. Network Security Fundamentals: Students gain comprehensive knowledge of network architecture, protocols, and security principles.
  2. Security Operations: Graduates will understand security operations center functions, including monitoring, detection, and incident response.
  3. Ethical Hacking Skills: Students will learn authorized testing methods to identify and address security vulnerabilities.
  4. Compliance Knowledge: Students will gain an understanding of the cyber security regulations, standards, and compliance requirements in various industries.
  5. Technical Proficiency: Thru course labs students will gain experience with current security tools, firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and other relevant technologies.
  6. Incident Response: Students will learn how to detect, analyze, and respond to security incidents following established protocols.
  7. Professional Communication: Students will develop skills to effectively communicate security concerns and solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences.

To be eligible for admission into this program, students must meet the general requirements for admission to New River Community and Technical College.
