I’ve heard that New River CTC now has a “virtual bookstore.” What does that mean exactly?
Starting with the fall 2016 semester, New River CTC is partnering with MBS Direct to provide bookstore services to all New River CTC students at http://bookstore.mbsdirect.net/newriver.htm.
What information do I need to use my financial aid to purchase books through the virtual bookstore?
To use financial aid to purchase books, students should use their student ID number (including the zeros) to log in and the term (example: FA16 or SP17) followed by their date of birth for their voucher number, example: FA16ddmmyyyy. The option to use financial aid to purchase books will be disabled approximately two weeks after the start of classes.
Can I still purchase books on campus?
No. Since the fall 2009 semester, textbooks have been available online through the bookstore web site.
Why did New River CTC move to an online system?
There were a number of reasons for going to an online system. Providing the lower prices students desire and improved service were the main reasons. Moving the bookstore services online created a more responsive service for students, meaning that access is more immediate and ordering procedures are more efficient. The online bookstore added the convenience of 24 hour ordering and other comprehensive services including on-time delivery of the correct materials, money-saving programs and 24/7 customer service.
How many days will it take to get my books?
The virtual bookstore offers all forms of shipping, so the choice is yours. Shipping typically takes 2-3 days, depending on the method selected. All orders are shipped within 24 hours.
Are my books going to be more expensive now that I have to pay shipping?
No. The shipping charges were included in the price of the books before and will now be separate. Students will now see a separate price for the book and the shipping charges. In addition, there will be more used books available, significantly reducing the price of books. MBS has one of the largest inventories of used books saving students up to 25% off the list price.
Now that I can’t look at the books before I buy them, just how used is “used?”
The online vendor selected offers high quality used books. Every book passes a quality inspection which includes a check for damage, excessive marking or highlighting, and that all pages, bindings and covers are intact.
What about buyback?
MBS offers a Guaranteed Buyback, when ordering new or used titles, students will see a savings alert of the amount they can get for selling their books back at the end of the term. Buyback will be available via the Virtual Bookstore website. A prepaid shipping label is created at the completion of online buyback so that you do not have to pay to ship the books you have sold.
