[BECKLEY, W. VA.] Steven R. (Steve) Wise has been named Dean for Workforce, Technical and Community Education at New River Community and Technical College. He began his duties on July 7. He has served New River CTC as Mercer County Campus Dean for the past three and a half years.
Wise will be based at the Advanced Technology Center in Ghent, but will also maintain an office in Princeton and travel extensively throughout the nine counties served by the College.
"We are excited regarding the experience and background Mr. Wise will bring to the Workforce and Continuing Education area of the college," stated New River CTC President L. Marshall Washington. "His ability to work positively and proactively with the community has been demonstrated. In addition, he is always willing to go above and beyond to assist students and families with making the decision to expand their educational journey."
Very active in the Princeton community, Wise serves as second vice president and on the executive committee of the Princeton-Mercer County Chamber of Commerce. He also is a member of the Princeton Renaissance Project Committee, the Rotary Club of Princeton and the board of the Princeton Community Hospital Foundation.
During his tenure as dean of the Mercer County Campus, which is co-located in the Mercer County Technical Education Center, Wise and his staff and faculty have built a strong foundation of educational programs and student services upon which the college can grow. The campus is slated to move into expanded facilities in the former First Community Bank Building on Mercer Street in Princeton this fall.
"We've prepared the college to move into a larger space from which we will be able to expand programs and services and serve more students," Wise said. "Though I will miss the daily interaction with the wonderful people I've been privileged to work with for the past few years, I am looking forward to serving the college and the citizens of southern West Virginia in a broader way."
A graduate of Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tennessee, Wise earned a master's degree in college student personnel from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. He is completing a doctorate in educational policy studies and evaluation at the University of Kentucky.
New River Community and Technical College serves nine counties in southeastern West Virginia from four main campuses: Greenbrier Valley Campus (Lewisburg), Mercer County Campus (Princeton), Nicholas County Campus (Summersville) and Raleigh County Campus (Beckley). Administrative offices are located in Beckley.
