New River CTC to Offer EMT-Basic Class in Ghent

[GHENT, W. VA.] New River Community and Technical College will offer an Emergency Medical Technician Basic (EMT-B) course in Ghent, W. Va., beginning Aug. 19 Classes will be held at the New River CTC Advanced Technology Center on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 5:30-10 p.m.

The EMT-B course is designed to train the student to maintain high quality patient care. Graduates will be able to recognize, assess, and manage medical emergencies of acutely ill or injured persons in any pre-hospital settings. Students who successfully complete the EMT-B class will receive five hours of college credit and are eligible to sit for the National Registry Certification (NBREMT) exam and the West Virginia EMT-B exam.

Students must complete the EMT-B class before enrolling in the Paramedic Certificate program offered at New River's campuses in Beckley, Lewisburg, Princeton and Summersville. The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

Applicants will be required to have a physical exam, current immunizations and drug and background screenings. Early application is recommended to allow time for processing of financial aid and admissions paperwork.

Moving Celebration

In celebration of the new Mercer County Campus, the college will be having a moving celebration outside the new location at 1001 Mercer Street in downtown Princeton on Thursday, July 31 from 11 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on that day.  There will be lemonade and cookies as well as staff available to answer questions about plans for the campus and to assist with registering for classes.
