DR. AMY WIX JOINS NEW RIVER FACULTY

[Beckley, W. Va.] Dr. Amy M. Wix has joined the faculty of New River Community and Technical College as an instructor and fieldwork coordinator for the Occupational Therapy Assistant program that is currently under development.

Pending accreditation, the program will begin enrolling students in the fall of 2014. It is headquartered at New River's Center for Rehabilitation Sciences and Medical Assisting Education in Beckley, W. Va.

Wix comes to New River from Genesis Rehabilitation Services, where she was a denials management specialist and dementia educator.

Wix earned a bachelor's degree in multidisciplinary studies and a master's in occupational therapy at West Virginia University and a doctorate in occupational therapy from Chatham University in Pittsburgh, Pa. She is licensed as an occupational therapist in West Virginia, Virginia and Georgia and is a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association and the West Virginia Occupational Therapy Association.

New River Community and Technical College is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. It serves nine counties in southeastern West Virginia from five locations: Mercer County Campus (Princeton), Nicholas County Campus (Summersville), Beckley Campus, Greenbrier Valley Campus (Lewisburg) and the Advanced Technology Center (Ghent). Administrative offices are located in Beckley.

Moving Celebration

In celebration of the new Mercer County Campus, the college will be having a moving celebration outside the new location at 1001 Mercer Street in downtown Princeton on Thursday, July 31 from 11 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on that day.  There will be lemonade and cookies as well as staff available to answer questions about plans for the campus and to assist with registering for classes.
