The New River Community and Technical College Library is open to all students, faculty, staff, and local community residents. All students may borrow library materials using their Mountain Library Network (MLN) cards. All New River Community and Technical College students and staff have access to all services and resources at New River Library, both at the physical library and online.
MLN cards are issued to any local resident, with currently registered students allowed more items checked out for longer check-out periods. After you register and pay fees, go to the library (with driver’s license, New River school ID, and a piece of mail showing your current mailing address) and request a card. There is no charge for the MLN cards (MLN cards are available at all MLN libraries). Bring the MLN card with you to the Library to get full service access. This includes checkouts, interlibrary loans, access to the reserve collection and copying. No matter which MLN Library issued your card, produce it at the New River Library for full service access.
The physical New River Community and Technical College Library is at 129 Courtney Drive in Lewisburg. You can find the Library webpage at < http://www.newriver.edu/current-students/library-services >, or from the New River Community and Technical College homepage, hold the mouse over <currentstudents> and click on <Library Services> in the green drop-down box to get to the Library page. If you are logged into MyNewRiver, hold the mouse over <Student Resources> and click on <Library>.
On the New River Library homepage, you will have access to <Find a book/dvd>, <Find Articles>, <Subject Resources>, <Other Resources>, <New River Library Fact Sheet>, and <New River Miscellany>.
<Find a book/dvd> is the library catalog and you can see the library collections available to you at the New River Library and all other MLN libraries. To find a book, students can do author, title, subject, and keyword searches in any of the MLN libraries (or combination). Please feel free to ask the Library staff for help in finding books or media in the MLN collections or in requesting an interlibrary loan.
<Find Articles> provides you with electronic databases that provide largely full text articles from journals, magazines, and other resources. The first four on the list are from EBSCOhost and are Academic Search Complete [multidisciplinary dbase [academic journals and popular magazines], CINAHL Complete [research tool for nursing and allied health professionals covering full-text and indexing for professional, academic journals, and online resources], Applied Science and Technology Source [covers the full spectrum of the applied sciences and computing disciplines [professional & academic journals and popular magazines, subject related e-zines], and eBook Community College Subscription Collection. Next is LexisNexis. This dbase allows the library user to search national and international news, look up federal and state legal cases, and find company information. These five databases use the same username and password used to access myNewRiver. WV Info Depot allows the user to access the public library article database, EbscoHost. The username and password for access to WV Info Depot can be gotten by calling the New River Library (304-647-6575). Please feel free to ask the Library staff for help in finding articles in these databases or in requesting interlibrary loans (ILLs). Indexes provides access to journal indexes from which articles can be interlibrary loaned. The Charleston Newspaper Index provides access to the Charleston Gazette and The Charleston Daily Mail (index is free; for articles ILL through the New River Library). ERIC (Education Resources Information Center) is the largest index to education-related subjects. Links to local newspapers are also available. Please feel free to ask the Library staff for help in finding articles in these databases or in requesting interlibrary loans.
<Subject Resources> provides access to faculty, class, and organization requested resources.
<Other Resources> provides access to a variety of databases and resources, including West Virginia Library Commission resources, federal and state codes, federal and state tax resources and forms, and links to poetry and short story resources. Please feel free to ask the Library staff for help in using these resource links.
InterLibrary Loan (ILL) services are available to all students. Books or articles not available in the New River Library can be requested from other libraries in West Virginia, or from libraries in other states. There is generally no charge for this service. Make ILL requests to anyone on the library staff using either the print ILL request forms found in the Library, sending e-ILL requests to < This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.> (name, phone number, MLN library card number, and book or article identification), or you may call 304-647-6575. Please have your number from the MLN card available for all ILL requests.
