Center for Teaching Excellence

Title III - Developing a Distance Learning System for Rural Appalachia

Located in C3 (main classroom building), Beckley, the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) serves faculty from all New River campuses with training, workshops, equipment and expertise in support of the design and development of distance education as well as traditional courses.

The CTE includes a state-of-the-art Faculty Resource Center, which features dual-quad computer workstations in both Mac and Windows platforms. Intended for high-end distance-learning media creation, the workstations include the Adobe E-Learning Suite, Camtasia and Microsoft Office Professional, as well as a host of other audiovisual, multimedia and graphics software tools. The center also has media hardware, such as HD camcorders, voice recorders and digital still cameras available for loan to faculty.

The CTE supports faculty in their use of all learning technology, including traditional classroom technology, the college's Interactive Video Network (IVN), Wimba Classroom, Wimba Pronto and the Learning Management System (ANGEL).

"As Director of the Center for Teaching Excellence, I invite all faculty to visit the CTE and Faculty Resource Center to gain first-hand experience and to discuss with me the possibilities for your course."
