Find a New Hobby at New River
[Summersville, W. Va.] New River Community and Technical College is offering three community education classes this spring that can put you on the path to a new hobby.
Floral Design
Pam Casto, of City Floral and Gifts in Summersville will be bringing her years of floral knowledge to a Beginning Floral Design class that starts Tuesday, April 17, from 6-8 p.m. at the Workforce WV building in Summersville.
In this four-week class students will learn the basics of the floral color wheel, identifying and incorporating various textures, materials that make a cohesive arrangement, floral design and assembly of floral arrangements.
"This will be a fun class for anyone who was ever wanted to be able to create their own centerpieces or floral arrangements. People will be surprised how quickly they pick it up," Casto says.
Students will all make a floral design to keep. Tuition is $50, and there is also a supply fee.
Sign Language
New River will offer an eight-week starter course that will be a great for anyone wanting to learn sign language. Instructor Ressie Thomas will teach students the alphabet as well as common signs. Students will learn how to converse using sign language and common American Sign Language standards.
This class will be held at the Summersville Public Library beginning Monday, April 16 from 6-8 p.m. Tuition is $80.
Scrapbooking Crop
If you love to scrapbook, or would like to learn how to scrapbook, you won't want to miss the all-day Scrapbooking Crop on Saturday, April 14, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Workforce WV building in Summersville.
Scrapbooking guru Leslie Baughman will guide students through scrapbook design, concepts and layout while teaching about various materials that can be used and how to incorporate materials for a unified, cohesive look. Students should bring their own supplies, but Baughman will have supplies and scrapbooking products available to try and for purchase. Tuition for this fun-filled course is $25.
