Entrance Assessment

Entrance Assessment (Placement Testing)

All students who do not have prior college level English and Math must submit scores from a placement assessment test for the purpose of placing a student in classes. A student who has completed the Application for Admission process may take the Accuplacer test on campus at New River. There is no charge for the Accuplacer test and a student should allow up to 3 hours for testing.

Contact the Educational Counselor in the Student Success Center on your local campus to request an appointment for testing or stop by your campus before 1 p.m. to test:

Advanced Technology Center (Ghent) 304-929-5016

Raleigh County Campus 304-929-5005

Greenbrier Valley Campus 304-647-6591

Mercer County Campus 304-818-2014

Nicholas County Campus 304-883-2465

The placement tests we accept at New River CTC are: ACT, SAT, Accuplacer and recent WV public high school graduates who present Compass scores. ACT, SAT, and Compass scores must be within 5 years of the date of application to be accepted. We do not accept scores from other institutions.
